Lincolns Inn

Inn of Court

Founded Circa 1422

The inscription refers to the need for keeping windows shut, because of the smells from the nearby 'Boghouse' privies. These privies were also notorious gay haunts in the late 17th and early 18th centuries, and were likely to have been rather raucous.
